New Year, New Minimum Wage?

It’s almost New Year’s, and that means a spate of new laws will go into effect.  Before January 1, make sure you are familiar with any new employment laws in your locality.  Eleven states are ringing in the New Year with minimum wage increases: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, Montana, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.  Some municipalities have their own minimum wages.  On January 1, 2013, San Francisco’s minimum wage will regain its status as the highest in the country, at $10.55 per hour.  The federal minimum wage will remain $7.25 per hour.

Of course, minimum wage and other laws can change at any time during the year.  New Jersey and Nevada may announce minimum wage increases in early 2013.  It is essential to stay abreast of developments on the federal, state, and local levels to ensure you are in compliance.

Brody and Associates regularly advises management on complying with federal, state, and local employment laws including wage-and-hour laws.  If we can be of assistance in this area, please contact us at info@brodyandassociates.com or 203.965.0560.
